Qur’an (6)
A
- The greatest source of authority
- Written by Muhammad who had it revealed to him by the Angel Jibril
- It is the direct word of God.
- All of the Holy scriptures all cultivated and perfected in the Qur’an.
- Those who memorise it are known as hafiz
- “This is the scripture of which there can be no doubt”

Hadith
A
The sayings of Muhammad, written down by family and companions. When an issue is not answered in the Qur’an Muslims may look to the Hadith. Second source of authority. “Muhammad is the messenger of Allah”

Sunnah
A
A record of all the prophet did, traditions, customs and practices. If an issue is not answered in the Qur’an, Muslims may refer to the Sunnah. It is not the word of God so it is a second source of authority. “Muhammad is the messenger of Allah”

How do Muslims show respect to the Qur’an (5)
A
- store it up high
- do not place other books on top of it
- wash themselves before they touch it (Wudu)
- place it on a stand not a table
- no speaking, drinking or eating while it is being read

What does the Qur’an contain
A
- purpose for existence (worship Allah)
- guidance on moral values
- verses are recited for prayer
