Salah Flashcards
Wrong way of sitting during khutbah?
during khutbah, the Prophet forbade ihtiba (tucking in legs and wrapping arms around), and al-Albani mentioned that it causes tiredness. There is a hadith that if one is tired during the khutbah, let him change place
Ruling on speaking during khutbah?
الشيخ مقبل بن هادي الوادعي
said that one shouldn’t say ameen or give tasleem to the Prophet, because of the hadith that whoever speaks, there is no jumuah for him
If one forgets a wajib/sunnah action, should he go back to perform it?
Sheikh Uthaymeen said no, if the person has already moved onto a pillar.
Ruling on repeating words/actions that are essential to prayer?
Repeating essential actions nullifies the prayer as it changes the prayer’s appearance, whereas repeating essential words does not nullify it.
Ruling on adding to the takbir?
This is an innovation, but the scholars are unanimous that if the takbir was established, it doesn’t affect the validity of the prayer to add to the takbir.
If you join the imam while he is in ruku, what establishes whether the rakah was missed or not?
If you are certain that you joined the imam in ruku before he raised his head, you joined that rakah. If you didn’t, or you are unsure, you missed it.
Ruling on one who cannot recite fatiha properly?
Ruling on the one who cannot memorise fatiha before the time for Salah comes? Evidence?
He must try to learn as much as he can, and for what he cannot do, Allah does not burden him beyond his capacity.
He should recite …
سبحان الله والحمد لله ولا إله إلا الله والله أكبر ولا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله
… When he prays, in place of fatiha. This is because a man came to the prophet, saying that he cannot learn anything of the quran and asked for something to suffice him, and the prophet ordered him with this dhikr.
Ruling on the one who only knows part of fatiha?
Whatever he has memorised and can recite well, he should repeat it until he has recited 7 verses.
When does a mistake in fatiha invalidate the prayer? Who does this apply to?
If something is omitted from it or changes the meaning, but this applies to those that know fatiha or who refuses to learn it.
Responsibilities of Imam
The Prophet said “the imam is liable”
IslamQA says this means that the Imam must make sure the prayer is valid, that he keeps count of the rakahs and doesn’t omit any sunnahs, and that he makes dua for those behind him during qunoot.
What mistakes in salah are covered by the imam?
Leaving sunnahs, bad posture, turning head, smiling, forgetting wajibat
Not reciting fatiha (for late-comers)
Ruling on praying behind illiterate man?
Illiterate meaning that he omits/changes meaning. If an illiterate prays with him, fine. But a literate man cannot pray behind him.
What if I forget a pillar?
If you remember before reaching that pillar in next rakah, go back and continue from there, then prostrate sahu after salam.
If you remember afterwards, the next rakah takes place of the previous one, and the imperfect rakah is made up after final rakah, and prostrate sahu after salam.
What if I forget a wajib (not pillar)?
Continue praying and prostrate sahu before salam.
What if I am not sure whether I omitted/added something?
Sheikh Uthaymeen says that whatever is more likely, act upon that and prostrate sahu after salam. If both are equally likely, continue on the lower number and prostrate sahu before salam.
What if Imam prays extra rakah?
And what if im a late-comer?
He must be alerted. If he doesnt sit back down, those behind should remain seated and recite tashahhud. Then they can give salam by themselves or wait for Imam.
As for the late-comer, he follows the Imam in the extra rakah, as its valid for him.
Should the Imam always be followed in his prostration of sahu?
Yes, unless you are a late-comer.
How is prostration of sahu for the one who makes 2 mistakes? As for 3+?
If both indicate prostration before salam, do so. Likewise after. If both, before salam.
As for 3+, Uthaymeen said that whatever occurred more, follow that, but IslamQA holds that the prostration is before salam regardless.
if I forget a pillar in last rakah and remember after salah, how is it made up?
Imam Ahmed and Bin Baz say that the entire rakah is made up for.
Imam Shafii and Uthaymeen say that it begins from the missed pillar.
What if I accidentally do prostration of sahu without reason and realise before I complete it?
Bin baz was asked. He hesitated and said that an imam should finish the prostration so as to not confuse those praying behind him.
Should i prostrate sahu if I am always in doubt?
Sheikh Uthaymeen said no, because it leads to wiswas.
What if I forget to prostrate sahu?
Imam Ahmed and Sheikh Ibn Taymiyyah say that it is made up for even if he leaves the mosque, speaks or a long time passes.
Others say otherwise.
What if I accidentally didn’t face the exact direction of qibla?
Sheikh uthaymeen said that For the one who cannot see the kaaba, they are just required to face the general direction, so it doesnt matter if they are slightly off.
What if I accidentally prayed facing a completely different direction from the qibla?
If the qibla is south and you faced west, this is invalid unless your action was based on someone you believed had more knowledge of the direction.
