cleaning from impurity has 3 forms:
Washing, wiping, moistening/sprinkling
Water is 3 types
purifying (retains natural characteristics)
Pure (changed by pure substance in colour, taste or smell)
impure (changed by impure substance in colour, taste or smell)
How is impure water purified?
The characteristics return naturally,
Its cleaned,
Adding pure water until characteristics fade
What if there is water which its purity is not known, what to do?
The default is that its pure
If there are two liquids, one pure and one impure, and you don’t know which is which, what to do?
Leave both and make tayammum
If there are two garments, one pure and one impure, which does he wear for prayer?
He doesn’t pray twice, one for each.
Rather, he prays in what he feels more sure about.
What utensils are allowed for ownership and use?
All pure utensils (even expensive), so long as there is no silver/gold. This applies to men and women
Ruling on using utensils/clothes of people of the book and polytheists?
Default is that they are pure
Which animal skins are allowed? How is it purified?
Tanning, but animal must be from those permissible to eat
What is the ruling on body parts taken from live animals?
Flesh/bones = impure
Fur/feathers etc = pure
Impurities are two types and categorised into 3:
Impure in itself, impure due to being polluted with impurity
1) that which there is agreement upon its impurity
2) disagreement
3) impurities pardoned in sharia
Agreed upon impurities
Dead flesh of all land animals (except locusts),
Blood poured forth from slaughter,
All parts of pig,
Human urine/poo,
Seminal fluid and precum,
Meat from haram animal,
Flesh/bones of live animal,
Menstrual/post-partum blood,
Blood from prolonged vaginal blood flow,
Disagreed upon impurities
Urine/poo of halal animals,
Sperm,
Dog’s saliva,
Vomit,
Dead animals with no flowing blood (ants, cockroaches, etc)
Impurities pardoned by shariah
Mud in streets,
Small amounts of blood,
Pus from human/halal animal
How to purify clothes
Wet impurity = wash
Solid = scrape off, then wash
How to clean urine of weaning boy?
If he has not yet eaten solid foods, the place of impurity must simply be moistened
How to clean impurities on ground?
Physical impurities are removed, then water is poured over any liquid impurity
How to clean shoes?
Rubbing them/walking
How to clean finished/polished items?
What if dog licks bowl?
Wiping
The bowl is washed seven times, one time with dirt

In open land, what is prohibited when relieving oneself?
To face qibla or turn back to it,
To relieve oneself where it would cause harm/discomfort to others
What is the minimum wiping after relieving oneself?
What is haram to use for cleaning oneself?
3 wipes. After that, odd numbers
Poo, bones, food or anything respectable
What if a person doesn’t know where the impurity is on his garment?
He must wash the whole garment
What are the sunnahs of fitrah
- Using toothstick
- shaving pubic hairs, plucking armpit hairs, trimming nails, washing finger joints/knuckles
- trimming moustache and allowing beard to grow big
- treating hair on one’s head by oiling and combing
- dying grey hairs with henna or katam
- perfuming oneself
- circumcision
