safety zones Flashcards
What is safety zone 2 and what happens there?
Waiting area:
* This is where you screen subjects, colleagues, and visitors.
* Here you inform subjects about the procedure.
When is someone allowed to continue from the waiting room to the Control room?
People are only allowed to continue to the MRI control room with a completed and approved screening form. Screening forms must be approved by the MR operator.
What does the sign on the door to the control room say?
“WARNING: Magnetic field, active day and night, no access for persons wearing a pacemaker and/or bio-stimulator, do not enter with credit cards and other magnetic cards. The magnetic field can cause damage to watches, disks, and other electronic devices.”
What is safety zone 3 and what do you need to make sure of in terms of the entrance to it?
- All people passing this door have an Operator approved screening form.
- People wearing pacemakers or neuro-stimulators aren’t allowed to pass the door with this sign.
- This door is always closed and inform your personnel to keep this door closed.
*Restrict direct access to the MRI rooms for subjects and others who are not associated with your study.
What is safety zone 4 and what needs to be made sure regarding entrance to it?
Scanner room:
* MR operator screens all persons for contraindications and (removable) metal objects before allowing access. (Screening includes co-researchers and guests)
- Do not open the door to the scanner room until you are convinced all persons entering the room have removed all metal from their bodies.
- Keep the door closed, also when setting up your equipment and placing your subject in the scanner.
- Keep the number of people that go into the scanner room to the minimum required for the experiment.
- ALWAYS lock the MR door and store the key when leaving the control room. Even if you are away for just a few minutes!
When is the magnetic field on in the scanner room and where is it the strongest?
As the sign indicates, an extremely strong magnetic field is always present. The magnetic field gets stronger towards the magnet, and towards the middle of the bore.
What does it say on the door to the scanner room?
“WARNING: Strong magnetic field, active day and night. No access for people with a pacemaker and/or bio-stimulator. No access with credit cards and other magnetic cards. No access with metal objects like; pencils, keys, scissors, tools, jewelry. This magnetic field can cause damage to watches, disks, and other electronic devices.”
