How do you dispose of pipettes?
pipettes are placed in the metal pitcher labeled “pipettes” on the contaminant cart. PIPETTE TIP MUST BE POINTING DOWNWARD.
How do you dispose of wet mount slides?
Wet mounts contain live microbes, the cover slip must be removed, and placed in the small metal can that says “coverslips”. Then deposit the slide in the beaker that says “10% Bleach” on it.
What do you do with heat fixed slides once you are finished with them?
Hand wash the slides with water and comet cleaner, dry and place back in slide box.
Where are paper towels disposed of?
in regular trash cans UNLESS CONTAMINATED THEN THEY SHOULD BE PLACED IN THE RED BIOHAZARD BIN.
Gloves are placed where when you are finished using them?
in the red biohazard bin, make sure to wash hands after removing gloves.
Where does broken glass go?
UNCONTAMINATED glass goes in broken glass box, CONTAMINATED glass will be disposed of according to instructor’s directions.
How should on handle a bunsen burner?
- Never touch the top of the burner
- shut gas all the way off when done
- watch out for cabinets, clothing, hair, certain reagents, stains and alcohol.
