What should happen in the body when you warm up?
Body temperature and heart rate raised - improve blood flow to the muscles. Blood carried to muscles - more elastic and efficient.
What are the four stages of an effective warm up?
Pulse raising.
Joint mobility.
Flexibility.
Core strength and stability.
What does cooling down do?
Allows the heart rate to return to normal.
Prevents the build up of waste products.
Prevents pooling of blood in muscles.
How is hydration helpful in dance?
Prevents lactic acid build up eg; via incomplete respiration aka anaerobic respiration.
What do proteins do?
Growth and repair of muscles.
What do carbohydrates do?
Release energy slowly so are better for a dancer.
What are fats?
Second source for energy and endurance. Help to absorb vitamins.
What are vitamins and minerals?
Essential to regulate lots of body functions. 5 a day. Help to repair muscles.
Name some ways of being safe as a performer.
Be careful on floorwork to avoid burns or bruises.
Land correctly on both feet after jumps.
Core strength and body control for alignment.
Spatial awareness.
What do you do after an injury?
RICED: Rest, ice, compression, elevation, diagnosis.
Name the steps of risk assessment:
Size of the space. Any obstructions. Floor surface. Temperature. Ventilation. Lighting. Mirrors. Equipment and wires.
