Sacroilliac Joint Flashcards
What is the function of the Sacrotuberous ligament?
It prevents anterior tilt of pelvis and upward displacement of sacrum
Where is the Sacrotuberous ligament located?
It arises from the PSIS and the lower part of the sacrum of the coccyx and inserts into the ischial tuberosity
What muscles attach to the sacrotuberous ligament?
Piriformis and gluteus maximus
Where does the long dorsal ligament originate?
The PSIS and adjacent illum and inserts on S1 and S2
What is the function of the long dorsal ligament?
Limits conuternutation
What is nutation?
Movement of sacrum anteriorly and superiorly while coccyx moves Posteriorly in relation to illum
What is counter nutation?
Opposite movement
Sacrum moves Posteriorly and inferiorly while coccyx moves anteriorly in relation to illum
What is form closure?
Stable situation with closely fitting joint surfaces which no extra forces are needed to maintain the state of the system once it is under certain load
What is force closure?
Local and global stabilizing muscle system of the pelvis, lumbar spine and legs
What are muscles that produce force closure?
Glut max.
Internal oblique abdominal
Transverse abdominal
