- A change to our social and physical environment tends to encourage obesity-promoting behaviours, such as the overconsumption of food.
- lower levels of physical activity.
- Greater access to unhealthy food
- Changes to food supply have led to the ready availability of cheap, high-kilojoule unhealthy food
what has lead to the increase of being overweight and obese in Australia
Energy balance Availability of food Mindless eating Portion size Packaging and plate size
How has mindless eating led to overweight and obesity issues
We don’t always eat because we are hungry. Sometimes we overeat because of our state of mind and our emotions. These feelings can make us eat without thinking about it.
What are the health implications of sedentary behaviour
When more energy is taken into the body in the form of food than is needed to maintain current body size and levels of physical activity are not consistent with good health, weight is likely to be gained.
Many parents are concerned with their children’s safety and therefore do not walk to school or ride a bike, but get a lift in the car.
We spend more hours at work and travelling to work, leading less
time for physical activity and leisure time.
The development of overweight, or obesity can lead to type 2 diabetes, stroke or heart disease.

The screen time that children are exposed to each day has also increased which results in less physical activity
Most children also don’t ride or walk to school anymore and get driven or take a bus.

How does exposure to new foods encourage members to model good behaviours in terns of eating and drinking AND EXAMPLES
it is important for children ti be exposed to new foods and flavours so yay jeu develop a liking for a broad range of foods. This will give them a greater chance of establishing a healthy diet.
Examples include
offering a wide variety of different foods
-include a range of colours, textures and flavours
-serve a small amount of veggies and encourage them to take a few small bites
-encourage rather then demand they to try new food
Why is repetition important in exposing children to new foods
Being persistent and providing repeated exposure to new foods is essential because it provides children with the opportunity to learn about and become familiar with new foods. They more opportunities children have to try a new food, the more likely they are to accept it and eventually enjoy the new favours and gestures.
How can parents vary introducing new foods to children to make it more appealing
- cut the vegetables into different shapes
- serving carrots or merely with cheese dip to make it more appealing
- grating some vegetables and including them into spaghetti sauce, mini hamburgers or soup ect
