S3.1 Properties Of Gases Flashcards
1
Q
Define partial pressure?
A
Pressure exerted by a dissolved gas in a liquid.
In a mixture of gases, the total pressure exerted = the sum of the partial pressures of the individual gases.
2
Q
What is atmospheric pressure?
A
The pressure exerted by the weight of the air above the earth in the atmosphere. At sea level atmospheric pressure is: 101 kilopascals (kPa). At high altitudes it is lower.
3
Q
What is saturated vapour pressure?
A
When water enters inspired air it will evaporate to gas phase until gas is saturated with water vapour - water vapour exerts a pressure called saturated vapour pressure, which is 6.28 kPa at body temperature.
4
Q
What is pO2?
A
A measure of dissolved oxygen in blood
