Conscription
A military draft.
Militarism
Creating a culture with reliance on military strength.
Mobilization
The process of assembling troops and supplies and making them ready for war.
Alliance
A formal agreement between two or more nations.
Imperialism
The extension of a nation’s power over other lands.
Nationalism
The unique cultural identity of a people based on common language, religion, national symbols (flags), etc.
Stateless Nationalists
Groups with strong common cultural identity who live in a certain area or country.
Assassination
When someone of political importance is killed.
Total War
A complete mobilization (prepared) of resources and people.
Censorship
Government control of speech and the press.
Propaganda
Ideas spread to influence public opinion for or against a cause. (Advertising to support causes)
Genocide
Mass killing of a specific group of people, usually based on race, religion, or ethnicity.
Stalemate
Neither side could get an advantage.
Pogrom
An organized massacre of a particular ethnic group.
Strike
Workers refuse to work. The purpose of the strike to gain better working conditions, pay, etc.
Soviet
Councils of people made up of representatives from workers and soldiers.
Socialism
An economic system where the workers share ownership of the means of production (workers take ownership of the capitalists)
Bourgeoise
The middle class & upper class: Capitalists, merchants, traders, nobles.
Proletariat
The lower class, workers.
Communism
Everything is shared equally; no class system.
Exile
People banished from their native land.
Revolution
A forcible overthrow of a government or social order for a new system.
Self-determination
The right of each people to chose and have its own nation.
