Depression
A slowdown in business activity, wages and prices fall, and unemployment rises.
Inflation
An increase in the money supply causing a decrease in the value of the currency.
Fascism
A political philosophy which glorifies the state (country) above the individual by emphasizing the need for a strong central government led by a dictator.
Totalitarian State
Governments trying to control every aspect:
A government that aims to control the political, economic, social, intellectual, and cultural lives of its citizens.
Disarmament
Reduction of military
Demilitarized
No military presence allowed.
Appeasement
A policy where some of the demands of the aggressor are granted in order to keep the peace.
Collaborators
Non-Germans who cooperated and assisted the Nazis in carrying out their rule over the rest of the population.
Civilians
People who are not enlisted in the military.
Refugee
Someone who is forced to leave their country because of persecution, violence, or war.
Internment camps
Guarded camps in the U.S. where Japanese-American citizens were forced to live during WW2.
Concentration camps
Large labor and death camps.
Anti-Semitism
The hatred towards the Jewish population.
Nuremberg Laws
Laws that took away the citizenship of Jews.
Blitzkrieg
A fast, coordinated attack involving air support, tanks, and infantry. (“Lightning War”)
