What is russification and why was this not what happened in the last years of 19th century?
The empire established a forced assikilation to the russian culture trying to avoiud intervention from the west however, russian literature and music and culture in the late 19th century became even more connecctedd to western civilization as people discoverd more russian artist.
What were some challenges and opportunities of Russian industrialization?
Opertunities :
countable, convertable currency,
railways milleage doubled
letters and more post offices accesable
Challenges:
no machine tools
few chemical plants but with foreign ownership
factor work for workers hard

Peasant life was hard!
Still had to pay redemtion funds
had to pay for cost of industrialization
lived in communes and communitys (mirs)

Populists had faith in the russian people and belived peasant life was important, Belived cpaitalism could be skipped.
Peasants werent ready for capitalism (not modernized enough)

peasants werent gonna do anything so intelligensia needed an army
educated younger belived in assasinaiton.
Who was lenin and what prepared him to lead a revolution?
Lenins brother was in a plot to assasinate the tsar so he could not practice law
exiled to siberia he devoted his whole life to revolutionn!!!!
What led to the formation of the social democratic party and how did they interpret marx in their current circumstances?
People who were exiled and had different ideas based on european ideas
belived it was an international movment NOT just russia
needed capitalism so was against the increased mirs
did not approve of assasination and terrorism
did not think peasants were in the place to rise up so needed dictatorship

Goals were to unify russian marxism but in the end seperated into bolsheviks and mensheviks
Who were bolsheviks and mensheviks?
Bolshevik wanted a tighter group of dedicated people and controll/dictatorship, it needs to happen now
mensheviks wanted looser membership, new ideas, it will come in time

Imperialism is capitalism at its final stage so capialism at a big scale, country on country exploitation
