And largely abandoned after stalins rise to power and cultivation of a new political strain Stalinism
33
The economic transformation undergone by the Soviet Union under Stalin, beginning with his rise to power in the 1920s, saw the rapid process of industrialisation and modernisation
Facilitated significantly by the policy of collectivisation and stalins implementation of five year plans up until 1941. The extent of stalins economic transformation, which saw Russia enter the mid 1900s as a world super power, is largely down to the effectiveness of the five year plans and collectivisation, as well as stalins ruthless enforcement of them. Despite the significant human cost of both policies, the overall outcome was the rapid modernisation of Russian industry, which saw the prospects of the Soviet Union as a nation rise exponentially.
