A

The provisional government were the former provisional committee. It wasn’t made as a permeant solutions and its main aims were to reform Russia, sort out elections and continue the war

How did the Petrograd Soviet weaken its authority?

A

They weekend the provisional government because the pg had to answer to the Petrograd soviets. Furthermore the Petrograd soviets had a rule called order 1 which meant that they had the final say on the military. Finally the Petrograd soviets weakened them because they were elected and the pg wasn’t.

What was the aim of this summer offensive?

A

To win the support for the pg and help boost the low army confidence by gaining victory over Austrians and germans. They attacked in the south

A

It failed because the Russian front collapsed and they were pushed back hundreds of kilometres. It also showed that the Russian soldiers couldn’t follow orders.

A

The July days was a uprising attempt which came about because of the continuing shortages of food in the major cities, the complete failure of the June offensive and finally the effective Bp;shevik propganganda against the PG

Was started by anarchist revolutionaiiers who the Bolsheviks had initially tried to stop but decided to join and began calling their supporters
The PS didn’t support the demonstrations and many parties did not trust the Bolsheviks
Huge demonstrations broke out

A

The consequences for the PG were they lost crucial support because the event made Kerensky look very weak because he has to rely on the bolsheviks(red guard) to defend Petrograd. They were also given weapons which they didn’t return.

A

The consequences for the bolsheviks were that many more of them were elected to the Soviets and soon they gained control of the Petrograd soviet. Furthermore Trotsky was elected president of the soviet. Their number also increased massively from 24000 to 340000.

A

The bolsheviks Seine power by trotsky becoming head of the soviet. He then sent men to take over the bridges, HQ, telegraph office.then the red guards seized key parts of the city and then the bolsheviks climbed into the winter palace and arrested the remaining of the PG.

how did kerned try stop the bolshievks during the takeover October

A

Kernensky tries to stop the bolsheviks - kernendky ordered a crackdown on the bolsheviks. Then lenin and trotsky were quick to call it a counter revolution. Trotsky then used his status as head of Petrograd soviets to take control of roads and canal bridges, army headquarters and the telegraph office. Meanwhile Kerensky was looking for soldiers to defend the PG from the bolsheviks.

The molter revolutionary committee is set up - due to rumours the bolsheviks were preparing a takeover so it was set up to bring together all the soviets supporting soldiers in Petrograd and most of the petrograds also promised loyalty to the MRC
