20
Q

What are the factors affecting population density in Russia?

A
  • temperature
  • elevation
  • economy and trade
21
Q

How does temperature affect population density in Russia?

A
  • the west is warmer and more temperate than the east
  • this means that it’s easier to grow crops = more people live there
  • also lower temp = less likely to develop conditions such as frostbite and hypothermia = safer to live in the west
22
Q

How does elevation and physical geography affect population density in Russia?

A
  • the higher the elevation of the land, the more uneven it is = harder to build on
  • harder for emergency services to reach, less safe = less people
  • the higher elevation = colder temperatures so it’s harder to live and grow crops
  • the west benefits from flat fertile land due to steppe and TDW biomes = high pop density
23
Q

How does economy and trade affect population density?

A
  • the east is somewhat isolated from Europe and other countries meaning that there is less trade opportunities. This causes less jobs so less people live there = low population density
  • the west borders Europe, which contains many great population hubs, so there are great trade connections = this creates more jobs and benefits the economy, so more people live there resulting in a high population density
