Afforestation
the establishment of a forest or stand of trees (forestation) in an area where there was no previous tree cover
Agro-forestry
growing trees and crops at the same time
Degradation
refers to the lowering of a fluvial surface, such as a stream bed or floodplain, through erosional processes
Exploitation
the act of making some area of land or water more profitable or productive or useful
Extinction
is the complete disappearance of a species from earth
Fallow
(of farmland) ploughed and harrowed but left for a period without being sown in order to restore it’s fertility or to avoid surplus production.
Indigenious People
people or objects native to a certain region or environment
Leaching
loss of soluble substances and colloids from the top layer of soil by percolating precipitation. ( typically nutrients)
Percolating means to filter gradually through a porous surface or substance.
Monoculture
A farming system in which a single crop is grown continuously in the same field
Selective Logging
the practice of removing one or two trees and leaving the rest intact
Soil Erosion
the washing away or blowing away of top soil
Subsistence
when crops and animals are produced by a farmer to support themselves
Sustainable
maintaining a certain rate or level
Yields
how many crops a particular field, farm, or an area of land produces
Aggradation
the deposition of material by a river,stream, or current. ( term used for the increase in land elevation)
