RUNWAY Flashcards
TAKEOFF RUN AVAIL TORA
TORA[7][8]
Takeoff Run Available – The length of runway declared available and suitable for the ground run of an airplane taking off.[9]
TAKEOFF DISTANCE AVAILABLE TODA
TODA[7][8]
Takeoff Distance Available – The length of the takeoff run available plus the length of the clearway, if clearway is provided.[9]
(The clearway length allowed must lie within the aerodrome or airport boundary. According to the Federal Aviation Regulations and Joint Aviation Requirements (JAR) TODA is the lesser of TORA plus clearway or 1.5 times TORA).
TODA INCLUDES TORA PLUS CLEARWAY.
ACCELERATE STOP DISTANCE AVAILABLE
ASDA
ASDA[7][8]
Accelerate-Stop Distance Available – The length of the takeoff run available plus the length of the stopway, if stopway is provided.[9]
LANDING DISTANCE AVAILABLE
LDA
LDA[7][8]
Landing Distance Available – The length of runway that is declared available and suitable for the ground run of an airplane landing.[10]
EMERGENCY DISTANCE AVAILABLE
EMDA
EMDA[11]
Emergency Distance Available – LDA (or TORA) plus a stopway.
CLEARWAY
Clearway is the area beyond the runway not less than 152M wide centrally located about the extended of the runway and under the control of airport authorities. Clear way is expressed as a plane extending from the end of runway with up slope not exceeding 1.25% above which not object or terrain protrudes with exception of threshold lights.
STOPWAY
Stopway is the are ant the end of take-off runway no less wide than the runway and centered upon extended centerline of runway and able to support the airplane during an aborted takeoff without causing structural damage to the airplane.A stopway is an area beyond the takeoff runway that is centered on the extended runway centerline and designated by the airport authority for use in decelerating an airplane during an aborted takeoff. It must be at least as wide as the runway and able to support an airplane during an aborted takeoff without causing structural damage to the airplane.

BALANCED FIELD TAKE OFF.
A balanced field takeoff is a condition where the accelerate-stop distance required (ASDR) is equal to the takeoff distance required (TODR) for the aircraft weight, engine thrust, aircraft configuration and runway condition.[1] For a given aircraft weight, engine thrust, aircraft configuration, and runway condition, the shortest runway length that complies with safety regulations is the balanced field length.[2][3The balanced field length is the shortest field length at which a balanced field takeoff can be performed.[5]
ACCELERATE STOP DISTANCE ASDA
ASDA – Accelerate-Stop Distance Available: The maximum allowable ASD for takeoff on that runway.
Includes TODA and Stop Way.
