GIN - Gastro Intestinal Nematodes
common name - strongyles & trichostrongyles
- can cause diarrhea, most are subclinical
Muellerius capillaris, Protostrongylus spp., Dictyocaulus spp.
common name - lungworms (M. capillaris - hair lungworm)
- disease known as “bovine verminous bronchitis”
- Dictyocaulus spp., seen mostly in dairy calves, immunity develops quickly cattle may die if exposed to large # of larvae while grazing
- larval dispersal from fecal pat during grazing season by a fungus
Strongyloides papillosus
common name - threadworm
- same clinical signs as other threadworms
Trichuris spp.
common name - whipworms
- same as other whipworms

Moniezia expansa, Moniezia benedeni, Thysanosoma actinoides (common name - fringed tapeworm)
Paramphistomum spp.
common name - rumen fluke
- Found in rumen of cattle, sheep & goats
Dicrocoelium dendriticum
common name - lancelet fluke
- Found in bile ducts of sheep goats cattle, pigs, dogs, horses & rabbits
Tritrichomonas foetus
- Protozoa of urogenital system of cattle
- Spread through sexual transmission – usually via bull through herd
- Causes abortion/pyometra in cows
- Becoming rare due to AI
