When are patients with Rubeola considered contagious?
A
1 to 2 days before onset of symptoms to 4 days after appearance of rash

What is the incubation period?
A
8 to 12 days

What are the common signs and symptoms of Rubeola?
A
- Fever of 101 or more
- Cough, coryza, conjunctivitis (3 c’s)
- Erythematous maculopapular rash
- Pathogenic enanthes (Koplik spots)

Up to 30% of people develop complications to Rubeola. What are those complications?
A
- Pneumonia
- Ear infections
- Diarrhea
- Encephalitis (rare)
- SSPE (Subacute sclerosing pan encephalitis)

How do you diagnose Rubeola?
A
- IgM antibody
- IgG antibody

How do you treat Rubeola?
A
- Fever reducing agents
- Antibiotics for secondary bacterial infections
- Vitamin A administration for countries with Vitamin A deficiencies

When is the post-exposure vaccine indicated for Rubeola?
A
- Within 72 hours of exposure
- Susceptible household should also be given IG

A
Yes, MMR vaccine
