RTC tears Flashcards
Full thickness RC tear: what is a direct sign?
A direct sign is a defect seen over the full thickness of the tendon, communication with the articular cartilage and bursa, can have a complete rupture from GT, usually visualize volume loss or loss of bulk substance and no bursal herniation into the void of tear
Full thickness RC tear: what is a indirect sign?
Herniation of Deltoid and Peri busal fat into the tear. 1. Bursal effusion 2. naked cartilage or naked tuberosity sign 3. cartilage interface sign
Naked Tuberosity sign-an indirect sign
A full thickness tear or rupture of the SS with retraction from the greater tub thus leaving the bone uncovered. There is not fluid interface associated with this sign
Cartilage interface sign: indirect RC tear
Defined as a distince, well defined hyperechoic reflection of ultrasound beam at the interface between the fluid and the hyaline cartilage. A hyper reflection of the cartilage when the US beam is perpendicular to it due to the presenece of edema. Fluid with occurrence of full thickness tear, heighly reliable sign.
RTC Progression: Tendinosis
Progression is a teninosis with no tears, tendinosis with partial tears and tendinosis with full thickness tears
RTC progression: Direct Sign
Full thickness direct sign is bursal and articular side, volume loss, grt tube rutputure, bursal and articular side, volume loss and grt tub ruputure
RTC progression: Indirect Sign
Indirect sign or RTC tear is a delta or bursa herniation, budrsal effusion, naked tuberosity, no fluid, cantilage interface fluid and edema
