RTC Flashcards
what are the 6 stages of RTC?
safety and scene assessment
stabilisation and initial access
glass management
space creation
full access
immobilisation and extrication
describe a B plan and A plan
B plan is planned first, it’s the immediate extrication route if time critical
A plan is the best case plan, safest and most deliberate, if time allows
what protection is used and how?
combination of hard and soft protection
teardrops and sharps protection
hard protection closest to the tool
what cordons are used in RTC?
2m inner cordon
3-5m outer cordon (tool dump in here)
debris dump outside the outer cordon
what are 4 ways to prevent airbag deployment?
isolate battery
peel & reveal
maintain safe distances
minimum personnel exposed
what are the 3 ways to create internal space?
remove/cut steering wheel
remove seats
pedal pull/cut
what are 5 considerations at the immobilisation and extrication stage?
remove GP gloves/wear nitriles
use correct lifting and extrication equipment
consider weight and size of casualties
confirm access & egress
remove any hazards from extrication route
communicate the destination point to all personnel
how do we mobilise to motorways?
2 pumps on incident side
1 on opposite side (in case wrong side reported, and if traffic prevents other 2 pumps from accessing)
fending off - to give crews protection
what are the words of command for RTC?
tool live
last cut
spreading/spreading now
what are 3 ways to remove glass?
controlled removal
controlled breakage
packexe and leave in situ
explain dashboard roll and lift
ROLL
use the ram
- wedge cut next to front tyre
- cut A post nr middle of windscreen
- ram support under ram
- ram against a post
- remove tie down point so dash rolls away
LIFT
use the spreaders
- box cut next to front tyre
- cut A post nr middle of windscreen
- relief cut above front wing
- blocks under spreaders
- remove tie down point so dash lifts up
what are the considerations for using V-struts?
45-60 degrees angle
1.6ton limit
triangle/3 points of contact
name 5 hazards at an RTC
petrol/fuel
broken glass
magnesium
batteries/HV cables
sharp/broken metal edges
what does IAII stand for?
identify
assess
isolate
immobilise
first 3 at the safety & scene assessment stage
last one at the stabilisation and initial access stage
what are the safe distances for airbags?
thorax = 5 inches
steering wheel = 10 inches
curtains = 15 inches
passenger = 20 inches
