RSO Chapter 8 Flashcards
What do somatic cells form?
Parts of the body
What are the 3 parts of the somatic cell life cycle?
Interphase, mitosis, cytokinesis
What happens during interphase?
The cell grows and does its job
What happens during mitosis?
The nucleus divides
What happens during Cytokinesis?
The cytoplasm and the organelles are divided up and the cell divides to form two daughter cells
What is cytoplasm?
the material or protoplasm within a living cell, excluding the nucleus
What are oganelles?
An organelle is a tiny cellular structure that performs specific functions within a cell
What are the 3 parts of interphase?
G1, S & G2
What happens during the G1 phase of interphase?
The cell grows bigger and duplicates its organelles.
What phase do most cells spend the most of their life in?
G1 phase of interphase
What happens during the S phase?
The cell makes copies of its DNA within the nucleus
What happens during G phase?
The cell grows more and prepares for mitosis
Zygote
Adiploid cell resulting from the fusion of two haploid gametes; a fertilized ovum
Somatic Cells
Cells that form the body of an organism
Life cycle of a somatic cell has three parts:
Interphase, mitosis, cytokinesis
