Look externally - facial trauma, beard, large tongue etc
Evaluate - 3 - 3 - 2 rule
Mallampati score greater than 3
Obstruction - peritonsilar abscess, epiglottis, trauma etc
Neck mobility
Step 3
Difficult supraglotic airway (RODS) Restricted mouth opening Obstruction Disrupted or distorted oral cavity and pharynx Stiff lungs or c-spine
Step 4
Difficult front of neck access (SHORTY) S - surgery to area H - haematoma O - obesity R -radiation T - tumour
Step 5
Don non-sterile gloves
Step 6
Assemble mask, HME and ambubag
Step 7
Successful bag-mask ventilation
Step 8
Assemble laryngoscope
Step 9
Successful intubation (tube is noted to go through the cords)
Step 10
inflate ETT cuff (candidate must inflate the ETT cuff before ventilating through the ETT)
Step 11
Ventilate through ETT and do 5 point check
Step 12
Confirm ETT placement by 2 methods
Step 13
Strap ETT securely
