Purpose of PEER REVIEW

A

Integral part of scientific publishing - validate manuscript
Peer reviewers (usually volunteers) provide clear & detailed recommendations, without personal to author but critical of work with purpose that manuscript becomes:

  1. More Robust - Pt out gaps requiring more explanation or experiments.
  2. Easier to Read - indicate areas difficult to read or understand and suggest changes. Ensure proper formatting, grammar and language use
  3. More useful - Consider the importance of paper to others in the field.

Reject if lack ORIGINALITY,
RELEVANCE and
INADEQUACY IN REPORTED RESULTS.

Types of PEER REVIEWS

A
  1. Single blind: Reviewers know authors, Author not know reviewers (unless sign report).
  2. Double Blind: Reviewers not know authors, Author not know Reviewers.
  3. Open Peer: Authors and Reviewers know each other. if published, reviewer reports alongside article and author responses.
  4. Transparent peer: Reviewers know authors, Authors not know reviewers (unless sign report). If published - anonymous reviewer reports published along article.

EDITOR - Evaluative Fx: review, communicates required changes and whether should be published.

AUTHORS - Improvement Fx: reviewed to improve quality, grammar and fill identified gaps for publication.
