1.1 Age of consent
In the UK, the ‘age of consent’ for anyone to have sex is 16-years old
1.2 Celibacy
Not having sexual relations at all; to be celibate
1.3 Chastity
Keeping oneself sexually pure, for example waiting until marriage before having sex; being chaste
1.4 Heterosexuality
Being physically/ sexually attracted to persons of the opposite gender
1.5 Homosexuality
Being physically/ sexually attracted to persons of the same gender

Having an affair, a sexual relationship with someone you are not married to

Precautions taken to prevent pregnancy, and to protect against contracting or transmitting sexually transmitted infections (STIs)

Planning when to have a family and how big that family will be, by the use of birth control practices and/or contraception

The Bible teaches “Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; it is detestable”. This tells Christians that homosexulaity is a sin.
1.11 What does the Golden Rule teach Christians?
The Bible teaches the Golden Rule of “Do to others as you would have them do to you”. This tells Christians to treat other people as they would like to be treated.
1.12 What do Christians believe about procreation?
The Bible teaches “Be fruitful and multiply”, which tells Christians that they should procreate (have children), and not use contraception to stop this happening.

The Bible teaches that Eve was made from Adam’s rib and so “This is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh”. This suggests marriages binds the two people, to create a new family.

The Bible teaches “Do not commit adultery” which tells Christians that sex outside of marriage is a sin.
2.12 What part of the marriage ceremony do Christians say to promise to God that they will not divorce or separate?
In the Church of England marriage service vows, Christians say “to have and to hold from this day forward; … till death do us part; according to God’s holy law”, which shows Christians that they are making a promise in front of God to stay together.
2.13 Why do Muslims think marriage is so important?
The Hadith teaches that “there is no institution in Islam more beloved and dearer (to God) than marriage”, which means that Muslims want to marry to be loved by God and in his favour.

Jesus answered his disciples; “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery.” From the Gospel of Mark.

The Old Testament teaches ‘Honour your father and your mother’, which teaches Christians that they should respect and listen to their parents in response to the love and care they are given while growing up.

Negative thoughts, feelings or beliefs about a person or group based on their gender

Acting on prejudices against someone because of their gender

Belief that all genders have equal status and value, so discrimination against any is wrong

Dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against women.

Society in which the oldest male is the leader of the family; or a society controlled by men, where they use their power to their own advantage.
5.7 What part of the Bible suggests that women are less equal than men?
After the Fall, Eve is told “With painful labour you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” This means that the Old Testament suggests that women should submit to their husbands and do as they say.
5.8 What does the New Testament teach about equality?
Jesus taught that “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Jesus Christ’. Which teaches Christians that everyone is equal, regardless of ethnicity, class or gender.
5.9 What did the Prophet Muhammad say about equality?
The Prophet Muhammad said that “People are as equal as the teeth of a comb”, which tells Muslims that all people are equal, especially when working together.
