Rovee-Collier & Cuevas 2009 Flashcards
1
Q
What is meant by the “ecological model” of infant memory?
A
Members of all species are adapted to their niche at each point in ontological development. Accordingly, infants memory processes are perfectly fitted to their developmental needs.
2
Q
Describe the so-called “sensory pre-conditioning”.
A
Associating A-B + B-C, result = A-C association
3
Q
How does the ecological model account for better memory performance seen in 6 months old children compared to 9 months old children?
A
In 6 months old children, forming non-selective associations is a primary mechanism. With increasing independent locomotion (9 months old) there is an increase of selectivity in forming associations.
