ROV Panel Flashcards
Where is the ROV Panel installed for running?
It is clamped to the drill string just above the Dart Sub or BVS.
What is the purpose of the ROV Panel?
It directs pressure to the RLST via the ROV hot stab line. It is used to set and test the RLSA
How can you tell which port is A or B?
Port A is at the top of the hot stab port tied into the 1/2” plumbing
Port B is at the bottom of the hot stab port tied into the 3/8” plumbing
Explain the fluid path for each port.
Set - Port A - from the hot stab fluid enters the 1/2” plumbing and passes through a check valve. It then dead heads against the bust disk, CTV valve, DVV valve, and 1/2” DRT line at either check valve for Dart Sub or 1” ball valve at BVS from same line. This forces fluid through the TL 1/2” line to the RLST.
Test - Port B - from the hot stab fluid enters the 3/8” plumbing and passes through a check valve. It then dead heads against the CTV valve and the 3/8” DRT line at either the check valve for Dart Sub or the 1” ball valve at BVS from same line. This forces fluid through the TL 3/8” line to the RLST
What is the purpose of the burst disk?
It takes 4,500 psi to fully set the RLSA. To prevent over stroking the tool and over pressuring the system, the burst disk is designed to burst at 4,500 psi causing to tool to stop stroking and letting the pressure bleed off at the point at which the seal should be fully set.
How can you tell if the burst disk is the right one?
It will have a red dot in the middle of the dome
What is the proper orientation of the disk?
The dome will face out towards the vent
What is the pressure rating of the ROV Panel?
5,000 psi
Name the 3 ball valves and the function of each
1 - BDV - burst disk valve - open it opens fluid to the burst disk. If the disk burst prematurely it can be closed to pressure back up.
2 - DVV - drill pipe vent valve - it is opened to vent the drill pipe to pull out of hole, and also to vent the system if the burst disk didn’t burst.
3 - CTV - circuit test valve - kept closed during normal operations to isolate the set and test circuits. It is opened maintenance pressure test and cleaning operations
List the external fittings, sizes, and locations
Bottom left -
DRT 1/2” and 3/8” NPT fittings
Bottom right -
TL 1/2” and 3/8” NPT fittings
When must the external check valve kit be used and why?
When using the Dart Sub to stop pressure from escaping through the Dart Sub compensation ports
