Route Planning Flashcards
Steps of route plan
1) Find departure airfield
2) Choose turn points (BEUT)
3) Find bearings and apply variation - true to mag is west is best
4) Find timings for each leg and mark 2min points (clock, map and ground)
5) Climb leg
a) calculate to top or climb (120kts)
b) calc remaining time of leg
6) calculate total time
Fuel plan
1) fuel leaving cranwell is 160kg and returning is 50kg
2) TOC (top of climb) fuel consumption see SOPs
3) Every 10 mins FEEL
4) Roughly 90kg/h so 15kg per 10min
5) Expected fuel
a) TOC from take off fuel
b) 15kg every FEEL
6) Minimum fuel - work backwards from 50kg adding 15kg on
Comms plan
3 reasons to talk to comms
1) emergency - between fuel checks consider nearest airfield and annotate with frequencies
2) routine - annotate any frequencies for MATZ, flow arrows etc
3) if weather gets bad and need to go to SALT then LARS needed. Annotate frequencies of LARS stations or if not coverage then Swanwich
Extra info
Further along journey fuel decreases so ac is lighter and can go higher
If burning fuel at higher rate
A) leak
B) Headwind
C) Flaps/ gear down
Everytime talk to new controller say who I am, where I am and what I want
If asked to check intentions then where going and who talk to next
