  • Adult worms in Cecum or colon for years
  • Eggs pass in feces
  • Feces contaminates warm, moist soil
  • Contaminates hands/food
  • Worms develop in GI tract
  • Adult worms imbed heads into intestinal mucosa

Light infection - Asymptomatic

Heavy infection - GI symptoms

  • diarrhea, abdominal pain
  • rectal prolapse
  • anemia

Stool exam for eggs (football/lemon shaped with operculum on each end.
May need to concentrate (for light infection).

A

Look up. There is a treatment, but you may not need to treat light cases.
