Sunni Muslims have six articles of faith.

A
1.Allah - belief in one God (Tawhid)
2. Malaikah - angels are God’s messengers
3. Holy Books - the Qur’an is the revealed word of Allah
4. Risalah - prophethood God has spoken through prophets
5. Akhirah - the afterlife - there will be a judgement day
6. Al Qadr - predestination God knows which choices we make and has written down all that will happen.

Shi’a Muslim’s believe in the 5 riots of religion and the 10 obligatory acts.

What are the 5 roots of religion?
A
- One-ness of God (Tawhid)
- The justice of God - God is fair, humans are responsible for their actions
- Prophethood.
- Leadership - after Muhammad there were 12 infallible
Imams to guide the Muslim community - Resurrection - on the day of judgement all humans will be physically raised to life to be judged by God.

- Salah - Shi’a combine the 5 prayers into 3
- Sawm - on the 20th of Ramadan they remember the death of Ali and spend 3 days in mourning
- Hajj - Shi’a also make pilgrimage to Karbala
- Zakah -2.5% of wealth
- Khums - Shi’a also pay 20% of their savings to Muslim scholars and community leaders
- Jihad - greater Jihad is the stuggle against sin
- Amr-bil-Maroof - encouraging others to be good
- Nahil Anil Munkar - discouraging the bad - correcting wrong, challenging evil
- Tawalia - loving the friends of God - loving God and the prophet Muhammad. Shi a also love the Ahl al Bayt - the 12 imams who are descendants of Muhammad
- Tabarra - hating the enemies of God.
