shows women as more manipulative. wants audience to understand juliet’s breaking of societies rules and romeo gives her power to make her own decisions. shows women are forced to become manipulative in order to survive.

romeo ignores fates warning and goes to the ball anyway so the tragedy is his fault
‘my mind misgives’ alliteration emphasises his decision
‘consequences yet hanging in the stars’ is a metaphor and ‘hanging’ has connotations of death.
‘these violent delights have violent ends’
friar is the voice of reason. predicts the future and love will cause death. links love and death and r and j. once life gets in the way they will suddenly die. their love will burn out over time.
‘to strike him dead i hold it not a sin’
goes against god which then leads to his death. the honour becomes blasphemous
