stray away from the Classic era to embrace fantasy stories. These stories heavily emphasized emotional expression and individual creativity

machinery- factories to create instruments, they became cheaper and more available- new instruments like the Piccolo, Tuba, and the Contrabass Bassoon. More markings are created, along with more character instructions, this makes conductors more useuful
