Travel and trade.

Kerbstone- roads are straight
Drainage ditch
Camber- where the roads curve
How was a Roman road made to provide a long- lasting and practical service?
- Drainage ditch- so it wouldn’t get flooded
- Built on an embankment
- Made of stone- strong and durable
- Has a strong foundation- lots of layers made of sand, stones and cement to make sure it doesn’t sink

What difficulties and dangers might have faced the traveller on a Roman road?
Thieves- people that were going to attack, wanted to get to your destination quick so they didn’t get robbed etc
Innkeeper could be dishonest
Made their roads straight to see the difficulty and dangers coming up, could be ambushed by rival troops
