A

The Roman Republic was not truly democratic for two reasons. First, only 2% of the population, all wealthy men, were allowed to vote, which excluded the large majority of citizens. Second, women were completely excluded from the voting process, showing significant discrimination. These reasons made the voting system unfair and unbalanced, as it did not include most people in Roman society.

Why has April 21st traditionally been the chosen “birthday” for ancient Rome?

A

April 21st is celebrated as the “birthday” of ancient Rome because it’s believed to be the day Romulus and Remus founded the city in 753 BCE. The date marks the legendary beginning of Rome. It was later celebrated each year as the anniversary of Rome’s founding.

23
Q

How did geography contribute to Rome becoming an economic and a military power? (Identify and name two geographic features in Rome. Explain how these two features led to Rome becoming an economic and military power)

A

Two important geographic features of Rome were the Alps and the Mediterranean Sea. The Alps protected Rome from invasions, giving them security to grow their military. The Mediterranean Sea gave Rome access to trade routes, helping their economy grow. This wealth helped support and fund their powerful military.
