Social mobility is how a person’s social status improves or declines throughout their lifetime.

Red Land vs. Black Land
The ancient Egyptians thought of ancient Egypt as being divided into two types of land: red land and black land.
What is the Red Land?
The red land was the barren dessert that protected Egypt on two sides. It seperated ancient Egypt from invading armies and neighbouring countries. The red land also gave the ancient Egyptians a sourse for precious metals and semi-precious stones.
What is the Black Land?
The black land was the fertile land on the banks of the Nile River. Ancient Egyptians used the black land for growing their crops. The black land was the only land that could be farmed because a layer of black silt was deposited there every year after the Nile River flooded.
What is satire?
Satire is a use of humour or ridicule to expose and criticize people’s bad behavior or stupidity.
What does the “Hymn of the Nile” teach us?
The “Hymn of the Nile” teaches us about the importance of the Nile RIver to the Egyptians.
What is a hymn?
A hymn is a song or poem of praise or burden. (sometimes religous)
Why do Egyptians praise the Nile River?
They praise the Nile because it keeps Egypt alive and happy, providing water, transportation, and fertile soil.
What is one “bad” behavior of the Nile RIver? What is the result of this “bad” behavior?
The Nile sometimes dries up, causing people to starve and sometimes die.
What were pyramids used for?
They were used as monuments to house the tombs of the pharaohs.
What was the Book of the Dead’s purpose?
The Book of the Dead served as a guide for the dead to use on their journey to the afterlife.
Which way does the Nile RIver flow?
The Nile River flows south to north.
How does the flow of the Nile relate to the organization of ancient Egypt?
The Nile River flows south to north from Upper Egypt to the Nile delta in Lower Egypt.
