Q

What is the Black Land?

A

The black land was the fertile land on the banks of the Nile River. Ancient Egyptians used the black land for growing their crops. The black land was the only land that could be farmed because a layer of black silt was deposited there every year after the Nile River flooded.

Isis (or your chosen god/goddess) was the goddess of Egypt, love, the moon, fertility, healing, and magic. Egyptians worshipped her because she was known for healing the sick, protecting families, bringing fertility, and using magic to help others.

17
Q

Name one Egyptian innovation and explain how it impacted life in Egypt.

A

Door locks (or your chosen Egyptian innovation) impacted Egypt because Egyptians could keep their possessions safe and locked away from thiefs. Also, they could lock their house doors from any intruders who try to break in.

What were the “gifts” or benefits of the Nile River? (Name and explain TWO benefits)

A

The Nile River provided a source of transportation and fertile soil (or any other TWO benefits that the Nile gave). The Nile provided transportation because boats could easily travel using the current of the Nile River. What is the Rosetta Stone and why is it important?

A

The Rosetta Stone is part of a stone tablet that announces Ptolemy V’s coronation in 3 languages; Greek, demotic, and hieroglyphics. It also holds the key to understanding the Egyptian hieroglyphics. It is important because without it, we wouldn’t be able to read hieroglyphics.

20
Q

Did slaves build the pyramids at Giza? (Construct a claim and provide 2 supporting details)

A

Paid workers built the pyramids at Giza. Most of the workers had tombs, which slaves would not have been given. Also, the workers who built pyramids were treated the opposite of slaves. For example, the workers were well fed and not worked to death.
