Q

Main factors are?

A

Radial speed, radial load, and thrust load (proportional, one goes up other 2 go down)

Q

Two things that cause premature failure in bearings

A

Lubrication and particulate contamination (misalignments cause this)

Q

Conrad bearings

A

Highest speed, High radial load, thrust load is moderate in either direction.

Q

Filling slot bearing

A

+ heavy radial load, - lower radial speed, - lower thrust, - 0 thrust with no load, - thrust has to face filling slot

Q

Double row deep groove bearings

A

Breaks all the rules. Thrust is good in both directions, radial load can double, but speed stays the same. No disadvantages

Q

Self aligning radial ball bearing

A

Two rows of balls on independent inner races. - spherical outer race, - lower radial load and speed, + thrust load, + handles vibration, + handles misalignment less than 3 degrees

Q

Angular contact bearings

A

Solution to thrust loading. Radial and speed are lower but thrust is high in one direction. Can be oriented in pairs - tandem for thrust loads in one direction- or face to face - back to back for thrust loads in both directions.

Q

Thrust ball bearings

A

Carry primarily thrust loads Perpendicular to the axis of rotation. Low speed and low radial load. High thrust load

Q

Flat race flat seat bearings

A

Two flat washer type races. Ball retainer assembly. Best suited for light loads. Load capacity is 1/3. It’s a type of thrust bearing.

Q

Grooved race flat seat bearings

A

Most common thrust bearing. Two grooved washer type races. Higher thrust and radial loads, but same speed

Q

Ball bearings

A

Cost less than roller types. Used for light to moderate loads. Have point contact

Precision bearings

A

High accuracy and speed, smooth running. 50xs the cost, bad vibration and durability

Q

Thin section bearings

A

Ball and roller types. Small envelopes reducing drive weight and size. Less speed and radial load.
