Describe world peace and security
- Maintenance of international peace and security
- Conflict prevention/peace building and solutions/resolutions
- Supports and assists countries to re build health, educational and other services disrupted by war.
World peace and security - global health
- a peaceful environment decreases the rate of physical injuries and death from armed conflict
- increased access to health care and can improve health status
World peace and security - SHD
- Peaceful environment also allows the government involved to focus on improving access to essential services such as education and health care (SD)
- Children can continue accessing education which increases their capabilities and choices for the future with regards to employment
Describe human rights
- This document sets out the basic rights and freedoms to which all men and women are entitled
- Ensure that all human beings rich and poor, strong and weak, male and female, of all races and religions are treated equally.
Human rights - global health
- Being free from abuse and receiving an education.
- Children’s capabilities are enhanced and a cycle can be created which would reduce global mortality rates and increase life expectancy
Human rights - SHD
- When human rights are upheld, children can develop to their potential
- Adults can be free and have choices with regards to employment and leisure
- This enhances the ability to lead creative lives in accordance with their needs and interests and to have a say in the decisions that affect their life.
Describe humanitarian asistance
- Provide humanitarian assistance or emergency aid to developing countries in times of crises.
- In emergencies such as natural disasters or conflict, a range of organisations operating under the UN step in to provide necessary aid e.g food, water, shelter, medical attention and support.
Humanitarian assistance - global health
- Emergency food rations after a natural disaster assist in reducing mortality rates by keeping the population nourished
Humanitarian assistance - SHD
Individuals will have more energy to begin cleaning up and rebuilding their environment. Rebuilding homes and restoring farm land can provide a sense of comfort that assists people in leading lives they value. Growing own food also promotes sustainability
Describe social and economic development
- Promoting higher standards of living, full employment, and economic and social progress.
- Identifying solutions to international economic, social and health problems
- Facilitating international cultural and educational cooperation
Social and economic development - global health
- Promoting social development makes it more likely that women will experience
- Women experiencing equality are likely to have fewer children and the children they do have are generally healthier
social and economic development - SHD
- Healthy children are more likely to access knowledge by attending school
- educated children can earn an income and provide resources for their own children in the future.
