ROLE OF LEARNER Flashcards
Classical conditioning
the learner is a PASSIVE participant in the conditioning response. The learner does not have anything to do with the NS, CS OR UCS to be presented.
Furthermore, the response made by the learner occurs AUTOMATICALLY without them having to make any effort or actively do anything.–> THE LEANER HAS NO CONTROL OVER THE LEARNING PROCESS
Operant Conditioning
The learner is an ACTIVE participant in the learning process. The learner must operate in the environment before reinforcement or punishment is achieved.
The nature of response: In Classical oonditioning
response is involuntary (e.g salivating or blinking), usually a reflexiv, atuomatic reaction to something happeneing in the enviorbment.–> The response is often one involving the action of the autonomic nervous system, and the association of the two stimuli is often not conscious or deliberate.
The nature of response: Operant Conditioing
voluntary responses that are initiated by the organism ( (such as pressing a lever, using an umbrella, throwing a tantrum or doing homework). In addition, the response may involve autonomic Nervous System but might involve higher-order processes cuz the response is conscious, INTENTIONAL AND GOAL INTENDED..
