Define Rocking
Gentle, repetitive motion resulting in waves that travel along the body
When to use Rocking

Increase mobility of soft tissue

Indications of rocking
Anxiety
Insomnia
Mental and physical fatigue
Pain
Restricted joint ROM - range of motion
Muscle guarding
Muscle hypertonicity
Effects of Rocking
Can be stimulating or sedative, depending on the rate of application
Reflexively relaxes muscles by activating the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS)
Mobilizes the joint capsule
Increases successive actions at the joints
Application of rocking
No oil or abrupt movements
A gentle push with a release phase in order to rock the patient’s body smoothly
Full palmar contact one hand at hip the other moves up and down the upper body and then switch to lower.
Do both sides
Contraindications of rocking
All general and local CI’s
Dizziness
Vertigo
Inner ear infections
Nausea
Motion sickness
Tinnitus
Unstable spinal or peripheral joints
