Robbins Reinforcement Flashcards

1
Q

Reversible cell injury with O2

cell membrane intact

A

ATP depletion
Cellular/mitochondrial swelling ( decr ATP –> decr activity of Na+/K+ pumps)
Nuclear chromatin clumping
decr glycogen
Fatty change
Ribosomal/polysomal detachment ( decr protein synthesis)

Q

Irreversible cell injury

A

Nuclear pyknosis, karyorrhexis, karyolysis
Plasma membrane damage (degradation of membrane phospholipid)
Lysosomal rupture –> hydrolytic enzymes in cytosol
Mitochondrial permeability/vacuolization;
phospholipid-containing amorphous densities within mitochondria (swelling alone is reversible)
