What is the definition of Robbery?
“A person is guilty of robbery if they steal and immediately before or at the time of doing so and in order to do so, uses force on any person or puts or seeks to put any person in fear of being then and there subjected to force.”

Indictable only offence
What is the max imprisonment for robbery?
Life imprisonment
What does robbery not include?
TWOC or taking a pedal cycle without consent

When do you need to use force for it to be a Robbery?

What does appropriation mean?
It is a continuing act of taking but there has to be a point when appropriation ends
What are 2 reasons it may not be a robbery?
1) Force used for some other purpose than to steal
2) Force is used to escape rather than to steal
How is force defined?
Force cannot be defined, decided by the courts - force can mean a mere nudge and force MUST be voluntary
Is pickpocketing robbery?
NO as long as no force was used, therefore it is just theft
When must the fear of force be?
It must be then and there, it cannot be for something in the future.
