How did Hitler rearm?
As soon as he came to power, Hitler began to rearm. In 1936 he introduced conscription.
He held a massive military rally in 1935
His use of conscription lowered unemployment.
What were Hitlers main 3 aims to start with?
1: abolish the treaty of Versailles
> he hated the TofV as he thought it was unfair
> called the Germans who signed it the ‘November criminals’
2: Expand German Territory
> hitler wanted to get back the German land lost in WWI
> his aims were to unite with Austria and the areas of Czechoslovakia which spoke German
> he hoped to expand into Eastern Europe
3: defeat communism
> hitler hated communism
> hoped to take land from USSR
> blamed communists for the loss of WWI

- a plebiscite is a vote on a single issueM
- the Saar was a place which was to be ruled by the League of Nations for 15 years
- in 1935 a plebiscite was held asking if the area wished to be returned to German control
How did hitler remilitarise the Rhineland?
In march 1936 he moved troops there.
He risked it as he did not believe Britain and France would react, he was correct
How did Hitler use the Spanish Civil war to his advantage?
He used it as a chance to test knew weapons
What was the anti-Comintern pact? 1936-37
Hitler made an agreement with Italy and Japan to try and limit communist influence around the world.
The new alliance was called the Axis Alliance
What was Anschluss?
Hitler encouraged Nazis in Austria to stir up trouble for the government.
Hitler offered the chancellor Schuschnigg a choice, to take a vote for hitler to take power, or to be invaded.
They took the vote, and hitler won, but he had sent Nazis over, so if was not fair
What happened In the Sudetenland?
Hitler encouraged the Sudeten nazis to demand union with Germany, then made plans to invade Czechoslovakia.
He promised Britain and a France that he only wanted the Sudetenland, but lied
What wastage Munich agreement?
Chamberlain appeased Hitler. At Munich, on 29 September 1938, Britain and France gave hitler the Sudetenland.
What happened when Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia?
Britain and France told Hitler if he invaded Poland they would declare war. He didn’t believe them so did anyway, which caused WW2
