In reference to the NZP Road Policing action Plan 2018-2021 “Policing our roads” what are the mains points to discuss how we meet our objectives in reliance to RIDS?
We focus on:
Restraints - we want to insure everyone in a vehicle wears a seatbelt or a helmet if on a motorcycle. To maximise crash survival probability. Where your helmet or seatbelt cunt.
Impairment - we want to stop if not prevent impairment crashes, period. Because people don’t learn we will need to be the best deterrence to minimise the probability of impairment crashes which go hand in hand with other RIDS. Don’t drive when your tired or fucked dickhead.
Distraction- wanting drivers to focus on driving, nothing else. Enabling all staff to ensure road users aren’t driving while distracted. Fuckwit get off your phone.
Speed- reduce crash severity through the reduction of speed. Conducted through speed enforcement focused on identifying speed as the main risk. Fuck he’s going like a strangled fart.
Reasons why you can’t chase cunts in a squad car and TENR in relation to fleeing driver situations.
- Principles of fleeing driver policy - A pursuit is only justified when the threat prior to signalling the driver to stop out weights the risk of the pursuit.
- The decision weather or not to pursue should be made before you flick you lights on and get them to stop.
- A driver not stopping does not justify a pursuit.
- An investigation process is preferred over a pursuit.
- The safety of the public, occupants in the vehicle and “our people” overrides the need to apprehend the fleeing driver.
What are the key responsibilities of the lead unit drying a fleeing driver incident?
- Continuously assess the risk.
- Ensure warning lights and sirens are full tit (Activated).
- If you’ve got a cop next to you in the passenger seat, get them to get on the radio to give comms.
- Get onto comms ASAP letting them know this dickhead has fucked off from you, giving location, direction, vehicle description and reason that it’s being pursued.
- Maintain comms with comms and comply with all directions from the pursuit controller.
What is the fleeing driver abandonment procedure?
- Acknowledge any direction to abandon pursuit.
- Immediately reduce speed, lights and sirens off, stop as soon as it’s safe to do so.
- Undertake inquiry phase as directed by field supervisor.
Give your in-depth knowledge of LTA 1993 section 113 - DIMDFFD

- Direct a person on a road to give details/information to identify driver.
- Inspect test and examine a vehicle and/or documents carried or displayed on the vehicle.
- Move and/or enter a vehicle if it is casing an obstruction in the interest of of road safety.
- Direct a driver to remove a vehicle from the road.
- Forbid an unlicensed driver from driving.
- Forbid a person without a license from operating a transport service without a license.
- Direct points duty or pedestrian.
Give your in-depth knowledge of LTA 1993 section 114 - Power to stop and demand details.
- An officer in uniform or wearing a hat may signal a driver to stop.
- An officer in a vehicle displaying red and blue flashing lights may require a vehicle to stop.
- A driver must remain stopped for as reasonably necessary for an officer to exercise their power/duty demanding name, address, DOB, PH number, owner of vehicle.
- If stopped for routine traffic stop may stop you no longer than 15mins.
- An officer has power to arrest if you give misleading info or failure to comply with this section.
How do you use the kerbside deployment method for tire deflation?
It’s the preferred method, you don’t have to cross the road.
- Get it out it’s case by the rocker arms, leaving the case somewhere safe and untangle the rope.
- Use the inside hand to hold the rope spool and the middle rocker arm.
- Hold the rocker arm on the opposite side of the device using your outside hand.
- Find a safe place and move i to position on the road side where you will reply the device.
- When your target is approaching get as low as you can and with a swinging motion slide the device across the area of road you wish it to be deployed.
- Use the rope to pull the device into place, drop the rope and get into cover.
- Get the device off the road ASAP after target has been spiked. Preventing any units tailing the target from being spiked also.
How do you use the “pull” method for tyre deflation?
Not the preferred method as you have to cross the road and hi vis is necessary being mindful of all traffic not just the target.
- Walk the device across the road opposite to where you intend to stand.
- Make sure the rope side of the device is facing towards you, coming across the road.
- Hold the rope lightly in a ready position for deployment.
- Pull rope to place it in desired location on road allowing the rope to be traveled over by other oncoming traffic.
- When clear and before target arrives, pull rope putting the stinger on the road. Release the rope and get to cover.
