Road markings Flashcards

1
Q

This is a two-way street. What do the broken lines indicate?

A

These lanes are multipurpose: both multitrack and single track vehicles may use them (cars must always give priority to cyclists).

The broken line indicates that drivers may overtake by invading the lane of oncoming traffic.

Q

Is the orange car allowed to overtake the yellow car on this two-way road?

A

Yes.

A broken line indicates that overtaking is allowed. However, in this case it is only allowed for the traffic flowing in the direction of these two cars, since the broken line is on their side. Oncoming traffic as a solid line, so they are not allowed to overtake.

Q

What do the solid lines on these lane mean?

A

Solid lines tell us that we may not switch lanes.

If we are accidentally in the wrong lane, we can’t change: no turning left from the middle lane, obligatory left turn if you are on the left lane.

Q

What do these lines represent?

A

Pedestrian crossing: give way when pedestrians reach the kerb, not when they are barely approaching it.

According to the law, the pedestrian must indicate the intention of crossing the road. If they stop at the corner to take pictures, you don’t have to give way.

According to the law, cyclists must cross roads at a max speed of 10km/h - but many don’t!
