River Processes Flashcards
Transport- what’s solution
Dissolved material is carried along as a solution. You can’t see
Transport-what’s suspension
Small light particles of rock and soil are carried along as suspension. They make the water look cloudy or muddy
Transport- what’s saltation
The heavy metal is carried along the bottom it is called bed-load
Transport- what’s traction
Sand grains+smaller stones just bounce along, larger stones and rocks get rolled along
Erosion- what’s abrasion
Sand and stones carried by the river scrape the banks and beds eroding them
Erosion- what’s attrition
Stones and pebbles bounce off each other as they are carried down the river causing them to erode
Erosion- what’s solution
Water is slightly acidic which means some materials are corroded by the water and dissolve into it
Erosion- what’s hydraulic action
Fast flowing water forces into cracks to expand and eroding the banks
