River Landscapes Flashcards
How do rivers change landscapes?
Rivers always look for the shortest route and over time through meandering and straight path to the mouth it causes erosion on the sides.
What are the four main types of river erosion ?
Hydraulic action
Abrasion
Attrition
Solution
What is hydraulic action?
The force of the river against the banks can cause airto get stuck inside the cracks and after some time it wears it away.
What os abrasion?
Rocks carried along the river rub and scrape along the bed and banks
What is attrition?
Rocks being carried by the river into other rocks break down into smaller and smother and rounder rocks.
What is solution?
Soluble rocks are dissolved in the river.
What is the bradshaw model?
It is the size of sediment size, river depth ect decreasing or increasing along the river.
In a data a analysis what is an anomalies?
Something that doesn’t for the system due to a number of possible reasons e.g human interference.
What is the mouth the river?
It is where the river meets the sea
What is the river sorce
Where the river starts
What is a drainage basin?
Where a river and it’s tributaries grow
What is an oxbow lake
An oxbow lake is where you start with a meander and the force of the river causes the outside bends to get wider until the two bends are nearly touching.
What does PEAM stand for?
Point
Evidence
Anomile
Explication
In a graph for a river what goes on the x axis?
Distance from the sorce
In a river graph what could go on the y axis?
River depth
