Examples of IRIT/RIT necessity
- Offensive attack with IDLH
- HAZMAT incidents
- Trench rescue
- Any incident with significant risk to FFs
Upon arrival and prior to entering IDLH, officer shall give one of following radio reports to incoming DC:
- Entering structure IRIT / RIT in place
- Emergency rescue, IRIT not in place
- Unable to enter, waiting on IRIT (No-Go)
- Risk does not justify entry until IRIT or
- No confirmed life hazard
After entering IDLH attack team :
- shall remain together as a team
- NOT use radios and tag lines as primary communication with each other
- All be carrying radio for communication with other units
If FFs enter IDLH without IRIT, exception report in comments section of HFD run record is required
Exception report
FFs shall not enter IDLH without IRIT/RIT except in following imminent life threatening situations
- Residential structures that indicate possible victims inside
- Vacant structure with a KNOWN life hazard
- Commercial structure DURING business hours that indicate possible victims inside
- Commercial structures AFTER hours with a KNOWN life hazard
Primary task of RIT is respond to FFs in distress. 3 categories of distress are:
- trapped
- disoriented or lost
- injured
