What are hazards?
The source of harm categorised by how they cause harm. Physical, biological, economical/psychological.
What is risk?
The probability of a hazard causing harm.
Give some examples of hazards leading to harm.
Wrong medication is taken by the wrong patient leading to adverse effects/hospitalisation/death.
Needlestick injury.
Stress due to a heavy workload.
What is the NRLS?
The national reporting and learning system. Classifies risk and incidents.
What is the RIDDOR regulation?
Reporting of injuries, diseases, and dangerous occurrences regulations. Puts duty on employers, the self-employed, and people in control of work premises to report certain serious workplace incidents.
Why is the reporting of incidents important?
It allows us to learn from mistakes, shaping policies and identifying training needs. Allows the identification of trends.
