What are some signs that a client might be unsafe from themselves?
client states they have suicidal thoughts, giving away important belongings, client previously had little/no energy and now is much more energized, self harming including cutting

involuntary hospitalization (client can refuse treatment but cannot leave the facility)
What should you do if you witness abuse either by your client or towards your client?
Call 911
How should you clarify statements of self harm?
“Tell me more about what you mean by that?”

What is DAP format and what is it used for?
Used to document suicidal or homocidal ideation
Data: info about client and presentation
Assessment: what is they level of risk/harm? Are they in immediate danger of themselves or others
Plan: what steps will clinician and client take to ensure safety
What are some components of a safety plan?
A plan created by client and social worker in the clients own words to stay safe.
Identify warning signs, what are some coping strategies, identify a safe person, connection to resources, intervention if necessary
Do you need evidence of abuse or neglect to report to the relevant authorities?
No- suspicion is enough to warrant a call to authorities
It is not our job to investigate but to report the info that we have.
What should the clinician do if there is a threat of harm immediately?
Encourage voluntary hospitalization (if warranted) but honor right to self determination. If client is not willing, a 5150 hold may be necessary.
What should you do if a child is in immediate danger?
Call 911, then CPS
Does it matter when or how long ago abuse occurred when reporting to authorities regarding a minor?
NO
Should you ever ask a child “are you being abused?”
NO never ask leading questions
When should you select the answer choice “Consultation with supervisors”?
ONLY on ethical questions
