Attention deficit” criteria refers to symptoms related to difficulty focusing, staying on task, and paying attention, while “hyperactivity/impulsivity” criteria describes symptoms like excessive movement, fidgeting, talking too much, and acting without thinking, essentially showing an inability to control one’s actions; both are components of an ADHD diagnosis, but a person can present with primarily one set of symptoms over the other.
